189 invited to apply

Hi all,
I am nominated for 189 visa with total points of 90.
5 of these points is for 3 years work experience (20 hours per week) that I gained during my Ph.D. I used to work on a joint industry project (sponsored by 5 major international energy companies like BP and Shell) and getting money for that.

I got a positive skill assessment results (for my CDR) from EA. Then, a friend of mine suggested me to also assess my Ph.D. degree (from the UK) and employment experience. So, in a separate application, I did that. However, EA did not accept these 3 years of work experience. Regardless of the explanation and documents that I provided for the EA officer, he told me that he is following some rules which based on them they do not accept any work experience gained during a Ph.D. time. He said I can try my chance in my visa application as the visa officer may accept it. Therefore, I claimed the 5 points for those 3 years in my EOI.

Now that I am invited, I am concerned should I apply or not and what is my chance of getting that 3 years experience approved by the officer? I have University payslips, a letter from my research manager, a letter from one of the sponsored companies stating that I was leading the project that they sponsored, and also bank statements.

Any advice about my case would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.
Tom

Are you claiming PhD as an education or Masters?

Thanks for your reply Mohsin and sorry for my late reply. I am claiming my Ph.D. degree as my highest degree and also I am claiming a 3 years work experience during my Ph.D. period. I am not sure if the 3 years work experience during PhD will be accepted? As I mentioned during my PhD I was working on joint industry projects and did close work with major energy companies. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks

You cannot claim any experience which was during your education. Only post-graduate experience is claimable
