I understand that 489 holders need to get private insurance for our own.
1) But do you buy them right after you reach and even before securing a job?
2) Do employers commonly pay for private insurance?

Do employers commonly pay for private insurance?
That highly depends on the policy of the employer and differs with company.

But do you buy them right after you reach and even before securing a job?
I would not do that because private insurance is not cheap. However, if you have children, you might need to consider that, if you can afford.

Thanks MysticRiver.
My wife and I are planning to expand our family in Oz, and we know there is a 12 month waiting period for pregnancy services from private insurance so thinking to get it as soon as possible.

There are plenty of insurance companies out there, BUPA, Medibank, NIB any many more, which one is more recommended?

Well, BUPA is the most popular one, but maybe a bit expensive. You should compare the premiums (there are many comparing websites) and then decide. Also, try to do a research about your shortlisted Insurance companies.

Consider before posting:
  • Do not post the same thing in multiple places.
  • No personal contact and/or non-English phrase is allowed.
  • Always post in a relevant thread or open a new one.
  • Better to use the reactions in a post to congratulate/thank.
