Agreed. Usually, they start counting after you permanently move, not the first entry.

Yes, for NSW, complete list of countries and age requirements for license conversion can be found here: https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/licence/moving-to-nsw.html#recognised_foreign_licensing_authorities

In addition, to get conversion to unrestricted license, the first issue date of your eligible international license (and proof of it) is important: https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/licence/moving-to-nsw.html

Note: One caveat is that I read online (not on official NSW Govt websites though) that you'll need to convert an eligible international license within 3 months of first entry to Australia. After that you'll need to go through the regular process of taking tests etc and likely the long drawn process of learner-->P1-->P2-->Unrestricted. I don't know if that's true or not.
You can convert and get the NSW licence after the 3 months "gracing" period. On the other hand, you are not allowed to drive using your overseas' licence if the 3 months have passed.

Some overseas licences are eligible for a full licence directly, others not. If the latter, person can choose to be a Learner, P1, P2 rut or apply directly for the full. They will ask you this once you pass the DKT.

And so to you ;)
Hey!!! I'm online now and then. But I do agree that my online time has reduced by loads. Always on the move mate, and am not very mobile friendly. ;) Will be back more once I get settled down, for sure.

And @PK-Adelaide join in on the fun, bro!

Enjoy the first winter bro..!
Am definitely enjoying the climate here in Melbourne. Really thankful to have escaped the heat from Doha! It'd have made me mad this summer. :D

I just want to share regarding medicare. On our first week here (last May), we went to centrelink and they advised us to apply for medicare. So by the following week, the centrelink agent called us for the medicare number and manage to use it for my kid's check up. 3rd week we got the card. I think no need to wait for 1 week or 10 days, just bring your passports and a copy of your visa as proof that you are PR.

Hi All
I would be visiting Sydney for 1 week in Oct, for the First Entry criteria.
Please suggest what documents to carry and specific procedures to be followed.

Also, what all necessary formalities should be done in 1 week of stay.

Thanks

To enter Australia, only your passport is enough.

To leave your country, you need to carry the grant letter to show to your immigration officer.

Necessary thing: Enjoy beautiful Australia.

Optional thing: Maybe bank accounts, medicare etc. if you have a local address to record. But none of these are super important unless you have any specific reason for that (for example, you need to make a bank transfer in future before entering Australia again).

Theoretically, you should notify any change of circumstances until your first entry. But in practice, I don't think anyone will bother about the change of apartment in the same city.

Thanks MysticRiver.
One query: Do you suggest we take Travel Insurance for our first entry travel duration?
Medicare & Bank Account : I would try and register there, with my friends address details.

Regards

Basically,
Medical Insurance General Cover, in case i may need any medical assistance in Australia.

Otherwise, Travel Insurance would anyways cover for travel related losses too.

Well, that's your choice. I travel a lot without insurance (unless mandatory), so it's up to you. Also, if you are a PR, you'll be covered by Medicare for general and emergencies.

From my personal experience, if you are a PR, and have a child, as soon as you get your Centrelink access, immediately claim Child Care Subsidy, whether you wish to/ have enrolled or not.
Just put in the name of intended child care centre, their rates, and submit your claim.

We did the mistake of claiming after enrolling our baby. And guess what... $7000 in two months.
Had we done this earlier, i'm sure the costs would be greatly reduced.
