I am worried more about the homeopathy ones because they look like pills and there is no name on the bottles.
Declare it, as advised by MysticRiver.
Shouldn't be an issue as long as it doesn't contain any prohibited drugs.

But if you bring something in a very large quantity, then it will be an issue.

You need to have an address, where you'll be able to receive post. It could be even a friend's address.
I'd recommend opening a bank account, for which an address proof is not really mandatory.

Hi All,

Thanks to all of you for answering all the questions. We got our grant on 18th Oct 2019 and we did our first entry on 28th Nov 2019.
My husband stayed back in Sydney and me and our children came back. I check my Vevo status and it still says Enter before date - 19 March 2020
It does not have any record of my first entry that we already made. It also shows :Must not arrive after -18 October 2024

Do we need to move permanently before 19th march 2020? I am planning to leave India by Mid- April and hence worried a little bit. Is there an immigration authority we can call and confirm with?

Since this came with a lot of wait, do not want to take any chances.

Can experts please help? Any rules that changed recently?

VEVO is only to check the visa status and visa conditions. It won't reflect your fulfillment of the visa conditions. Permanent resident visa allows you to live and work in Australia for indefinite period of time, but that is not compulsory. you just had to do a first entry before the mentioned date, which you already did.

So just chill now and dream about the new life in Australia from your planned arrival by mid-April. :) :)

Hello All,
I've recently been granted a 489 visa for South Adelaide, and plant to travel in few weeks.
Can anyone please suggest some names of recruiters for IT related jobs.
Also, any advice/tips on school terms for new immigrants would be great.

Thanks,

Term-1 for this year started on last week of January, please see the screenshot below.

Once you reach here, you may immediately contact the school within your zone ( where you are going to live)..... for Public Schools. Fee is $100 to $800 per year.

For Private Schools, you don't have to worry about the zones.... only worry about the school fees which will start from $5000 upto $25,000 per year.

You may bring cash upto 10k AUD per person as cash without declaring on arrival. any amount more than that should be declared.

You can start a bank account once you reach here or even you can start online account before arrival. you need to verify your identity once you arrive here by visiting the branch.

2. How much money do you think enough to settle down for family with an infant will need? (middle class family)

Since you mentioned 'Middle class family' ,that doesn't really matter how you consider yourself in your home country. Different persons in same level of social hierarchy have different life styles. Also, social hierarchy is less prevalent in Australia so you may leave that mind in your home country and be ready for a new life here. :) . Amount required to settle down depends on your requirements and what all you can compromise, and how long you can compromise.

Please have a look to this thread which will give you some idea. if you have any specific question feel free to ask.

Well thank you PK-Adelaide

Moreover, if we are bring cash in hand 15,000 per person we have to declare in the airport? Is it an easy process and do we have to prove anything there or is it cost something?

No you don't have to pay any amount. Just need to declare that you are bringing that amount for initial settlement in Australia..

Hello,
Can any immigrants advise and share their experience on getting personal Gold and Silver items in to Australia.
How much Gold and Silver can one bring into AZ. The Australia border force website mentions A$900 for adult and A$450 for child.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,
Rohit

Hi @MysticRiver is it possible to apply for a TFN before arriving in Australia or it needs to be done when you're already in the country? Thank you!
I had the similar question and was unable to find a way to apply for TFN without being in Australia. See extract from ATO below.

Online TFN registration – permanent migrants and temporary visitors

Use the online Individual Auto-registration (IAR) system to apply for a TFN if you are a:

  • foreign passport holder
  • permanent migrant
  • temporary visitor.
There is no cost to apply, and it should take about 20 minutes.

You must already be in Australia to apply.
