Hi there!
We are in the process of submitting our application for Australian citizenship.
I have a few questions and would appreciate your response/ advise please
1. Do we need to submit police clearance for overseas? We have not been out of Australia since our entry in 2017.
2. will the Indian passport suffice for proof of date of birth? Or should I attach the proof of age card as well ?
3. what are the current timelines ?
Any advice on these will be greatly appreciated
Thanks 😊

Do we need to submit police clearance for overseas? We have not been out of Australia since our entry in 2017.
The rule in the past was - you need to provide overseas PC if you stayed outside AU for more than 12 months since you got your PR or turned 18 (which one is later). However, currently, I see that first criterion (since you got your PR) is removed from official website:

DHA said:
You need an overseas penal clearance certificate if:

  • you lived or travelled overseas since the age of 18 years, and
  • the total time you spent overseas adds up to 12 months or more, and
  • the total time you spent in one country adds up to 90 days or more.
If this applies to you, provide an overseas penal clearance certificate from each country where you spent a total of 90 days or more in.

We could also ask you to provide a certificate in other circumstances.

I am not sure if that's just a mistake when DHA updated their website, or the rule indeed has changed. In any case, when you submit your citizenship application, they will immediately tell you which documents you need to supply.

Better to have birth certificate.

what are the current timelines ?
Highly varies state to state, even center to center. Here is the general statistics page
