Aren't cars fairly cheap there, at least a one 4-5 years old, which is fairly affordable? Why take the burden of a loan?
Cars are one of my top priorities in life :shame: So I have done loads of research on this. Yes you are correct, cars are super cheap. AUD2000-2500 is more than enough to get a decent ride that serves the purpose. Seen most of the people do settle down with a basic car initially, not very old for around AUD5000-6000 budget. And compared to the Sri Lankan car market the prices are way cheaper and if you owned a car in Sri Lanka you know what I mean. Apart of this, repairs look a bit expensive even the fixes are minor. Seen some friends spending a lot on mid aged cars.

The answer to your question would depend on few factors like how much one brings for initial settling/preferred type of vehicle/family size/options on dumping major chunk of your cash in hand on a car at the beginning specially when you are on a temporary visa/etc.

So yeah I agree there is no need of going for a loan as prices are affordable, Yet it is good to know if 489 folks are eligible to go for a car loan if the need arises.

I doubt the banks will say yes for any sort of long-term loan. After all, 489 has only 4 years and no matter how much you'd convince them you're committed to your state and Australia, thus, you'd be getting your 887 visa, from their perspective they are taking an unwanted risk. Maybe they have something more short-term and specific to 489 holders which so far I have not heard from any of my friends over there.
