You may be able to claim points for your previous work experience. However, your experience must be relevant. It must be:
  • in the same field as your recognised qualification, or
  • in the same field as your current employment in New Zealand/your offer of skilled employment in New Zealand.
Another way you can get points for your work experience is if the work experience required, or helped you gain, specialist, technical, or management skills and experience. Those skills and experience must be relevant to an occupation that may be considered skilled employment.

If you do not have a job/job offer

If you do not have a skilled job or job offer in New Zealand, any work experience you claim points for must have been in a comparable labour market.

Points might be awarded for work experience in countries that are not 'comparable labour markets', only if you were working:
  • for a multinational commercial entity domiciled in one of these listed countries, or
  • in an area of absolute skill shortage.

@MysticRiver who assesses the work experiences for NZ? Like ACS, what is the relevant body in NZ? I see NZQA only assessing Qualification and not work experience. Am I too lost (by Australia EOI draw shocks?)!

Specifically below link is from INZ. They do not talk about any third party SD and as many companies do not print details Job descriptions as per INZ requirement - I do not see a way out. For ACS I could easily provide a SD detailing everything. Here in NZ - I am lost!

I don't think you need to assess your work experience separately for NZ immigration. Your CO will assess him/herself.

@MysticRiver Thanks. Another follow up question. For Australia, we can provide SD written by work colleague. Are you aware if similar is possible for NZ? Somehow I don't see that in their page.

I haven't heard any such.
