Depends on what is your preference. A good start is to look at websites like allhomes.com.au

And preferably which area is good in terms of transportation as in the initial stages wont be having a car to move about.
Any suburb with a nearby train station will be very good, trains are the best thing in Sydney.

Book inspection from websites like allhomes.com.au, domain.com.au etc., inspect the house, submit an application, and hope that you'll get selected. For the first-timers, and especially without a job, it is important to show a good bank balance and references to have any chance of being selected.

Kindly tell me what are these references mean other than bank balance?

If you are looking for cheaper suburbs in melbourne ... Albion, sunshine near stations(20 mins to city from train) are only around AUD1200 per month for two bedroom houses.
