Good Day,
I am submitting my EOI and a bit confused regarding the points. Presently I have 60 points.
I did my assessment with AMSA for 2312 (Marine Transport Professionals). At the time of assessment, I was a diploma holder but the assessment letter received says that the Assessment authority considers my qualifications equivalent to Bachelors Degree. What should I be putting in Education Qualifications in EOI? Diploma or Degree.

Also my overseas work experience(which was less than 3 years was considered by assessment authority as at-least 03 years of relevant work experience.) This is also a dicey situation as I don't want to claim extra points based on just the assessing authority views. I heard a few guys were rejected because of such work issues.

My present Score is 60 (Age:30; Diploma 10; English: 20)

Apart form that, I am currently enrolled in bachelors degree ( related to my profession). I am expecting graduation by Dec 2016 end. Once I graduate, will I be able to claim extra points for my qualifications or I need to have my assessment done again before updating EOI to reflect my current education qualifications.

Kind Regards

Well, this is very unusual situation. I would definitely put the real experience, irrespective of what assessing authority says, because

1) I know they were wrong for sure
2) DIBP would validate the experience themselves
3) In EOI, you need to put start and end date of your experience, not how many years, so no scope of putting 3 yrs without false start/end time

For education, it is little bit tricky though. AMSA is suppose to validate/map your overseas experience with Australian standard. So, if they said your diploma is equivalent to Australian Bachelor (which almost surely is a mistake, as a matter of fact the opposite is common), you can legally put Bachelor in my view (claiming 15 points). However, I am not sure how DIBP would react when they find out this mistake. They ofcourse can't make you responsible for that, now either they would continue as usual, or cancel your invitation without any penalty. If you want to be in the safe side, you might reconfirm with AMSA (with the risk that they might correct their evaluation).

Good day,
Thank you so much for the response. My education, both diploma and Bachelor are done from Australia only. I had contacted AMSA before and in their opinion, the assessment is correct. They consider the qualification is/are attained through extensive work experience and continued competency training. So in their opinion my qualifications are Bachelors level already.
I am not very sure how DIBP would react to this.

To remove this ambiguity, I am thinking to wait for my bachelors degree (due this weekend) and then update EOI accordingly. Do I need to have everything reassessed? I plan to submit EOI on receiving degree and to the apply for assessment again after submitting EOI.
Can that cause any issue?

Kind Regards

In my opinion, you are very much safe because you have already reconfirmed with your assessing authority. If you are asked, you have a strong argument that your assessing authority confirmed, twice as a matter of fact, that your education is Bachelor equivalent.

Do I need to have everything reassessed? I plan to submit EOI on receiving degree and to the apply for assessment again after submitting EOI.

This would be the most conservative option, no scope for any question, so why you think it can cause an issue? Also, if you choose this path (which makes sense because you'll receive your Bachelor very soon), and provided that AMSA already assessed your diploma as bachelor, I think it's safe to go ahead without a reassessment (simply because, AMSA already thinks your diploma is Bachelor equivalent, so your Bachelor is going to strengthen your case further, without any reassessment)

Sure bud,

<From Mods: personal contact truncated, no personal contact is allowed in the post. If you use this website, please communicate via this website, that'd be supporting this site. If you must want to take it offline (again, we highly discourage), exchange personal/contact info via profile post, we won't truncate from there even if we hate it!>

Good day bud,
I was able to get through with the assessment letter and got everything done without any contact.
Thanks for your help again

Hi @Avin,

Yes, the contact information from @Naveen was truncated, as this was against our policy to post any personal information (email/phone) in a post.

If you really want to contact him or exchange personal information, use his profile post to request/exchange, NOT in a forum post.

However, we always encourage to discuss in this forum so that other members (who has a similar situation as yours) can participate and be benefitted. That would also be a nice support to this forum and other member's time & contribution.

Hey man, did ya get any response from assessment team. just to let you know, you can always call AMSA and tell them your PIN. they will be able to check the status straight away or just email quals (actual email address is given on website. it starts from quals though). Also, go through the Character requirements on immi website. we as seafarers are supposed to provide additional police clearance and character certificates from ship's captain and also from flag of vessel we sailed on. hope this comes in handy. sorry for late reply.. I don't stay much online
