According to DIBP, if you lodge a complete application, there is high possibility that your General Skilled Migration (GSM) application will be processed within 3 months. A complete application means uploading all the supporting documents including Form 80, Form 1221 and health examination in your ImmiAccount as soon as possible, after you lodge your application by paying visa fee.

For the applications that have pending supporting documents generally take up to 6 months, if documents are provided upon request.

Below is the processing time for different sub classes

Visa SubclassProcessing Time
SkillSelect State Migration Plan (SMP) - subclass 190 and 4893 months
SkillSelect Independent and Family Sponsored - subclass 189 and 4893 months
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) - subclass 1876 months
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) - subclass 1866 months
State Migration Plan (SMP) - subclass 475, 487 and 88612 months
Nominated Occupation on the SOL – Schedule 1 - subclass 495, 496, 861, 862, 863, 880, 881, 882, 883, 885 and 487 if not SMP18 months
All visas listed in priority 3 and 4 that are not SMP or Nominated Occupation on the SOL – Schedule 1Assessment will commence when above subclasses are finalised

However, the time line is for guide only, the actual time varies case to case.

The processing time can be longer for the citizens from "High Risk" countries. The terms 'Low risk' and 'High risk' show whether passport holders are eligible to apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). High risk countries are those which are not ETA eligible.

ETA Eligible Countries:
  1. Andorra
  2. Austria
  3. Belgium

Hi MysticRiver,

I lodged my 189 visa application on the second of August, 2016 , but my application has not been finalised yet. I emailed DIBP and asked them to let me know when they will make a decision about my case, and they replied

" The Department recognises that the time taken to process your application may be causing you and your family concern. We are seeking to process your application as soon as possible. You will appreciate, however, that all non-citizens applying for visas to enter Australia are considered on an individual basis and against legal requirements set out in Australia’s migration legislation. This often includes requirements that all applicants undertake and meet health, character and national security checks that are undertaken by other agencies; and this can take some time.
The timing for the completion of the checks varies from one case to another, depending on individual circumstances. Unfortunately I am unable to provide you with a definitive timeframe for finalisation of your application. I understand your concerns and you can be assured that the department will do all we can to ensure that your application is finalised as quickly as possible."

I do not know what I should do. Please give me a piece of advice because I lost my patience.

I am not sure what advise you are seeking and what you think you "should do". It is a known fact that the immigration process is time consuming in many cases. It is also a known fact that DIBP would not give you any specific time or comment on the progress.

So, while I understand people can get impatient, it is a part and parcel of the process, and you have to accept it if you want to apply for PR. There is no point of being frustrated.

N.B: From your time line, I can see it's roughly 5 months since you lodged your application. While it's true that there are cases where processing is done within 1/2 months, I have seen numerous cases where processing took 18-24 months. Also, many of those cases were asked for HC and PC immediate after visa lodgement, just like you, and then takes that long time.

I am not saying yours will be the same, I hope you'll get your grant very soon, specially because DIBP's reduced the processing time a lot in recent years, but you have to accept whatever it takes. You can't expect any guarantee of a quick grant in PR subclasses, you have 457/188 etc. classes for that.

Dear MysticRiver,

I called the DIBP again- that was my second time to call them- in order to enquire about my case which is titled " assessment in progress" in my immiacount. They replied the same again, and they told me this would take time. And they are unable to give me a time frame.

Firstly, does my enquiry will retard the processing of my application?

Secondly, based upon my time line, when do you guess my application will be finalised?

Thirdly, why my application has not been finalised yet?

Firstly, does my enquiry will retard the processing of my application?
DIBP does discourage asking about progress. As per them (DIBP), it might result further delay.

Secondly, based upon my time line, when do you guess my application will be finalised?
I have seen people get their visa from 1 month to 2.5 years. So, I guess it'd be between that period, unless you set a new record.

Thirdly, why my application has not been finalised yet?
If DIBO doesn't tell you, how you think anybody else can amswer that question?

Hi,

Gooday!

This is Raj from India. I've applied for Sub- Class 190 and have submitted my EOI with 60 points on 29th sep 2016, still haven't received an update.

Will it take longer time than expected? Moreover the processing time usually takes 7-8 weeks.

Any update would be highly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Raj.

Invitation time varies with skills, and there is no occupation-wise information released by DIBP for subclass 190.

Hello,

I hope everyone would be fine.

Yesterday My EOI was Updated by itself because of experience year addition and now my points increased upto 70/75 for subclass 189/190.

EOI Submitted date is 19/07/2016 and update date which SKILLSELECT is showing is 03/02/2017.

Question is would i be too far behind now in the queue for ACCOUNTANT category for invitation purpose or not? Remember that Accountant Visa date of effect was 13/09/2016 for 18th January 2017 round. The system updated the EOI not me manually, so would i still be late in the queue ?? cz visa date of effect is 13th September 2016 and my EOI updated just yesterday.

Alsotell me that i have also applied for SC190, so is there any hope that i may get SC 190 INVITATION before SC189?? I am quite frustrated with all this dilemma.

It is a common understanding that, whenever your point changes, whether you do it yourself or it's done automatically, your Visa date of Effect is going to change. So, yes, you'll be behind the queue among 75 points.

However, as you can see the minimum point for Accountants in last few rounds was 70, and there is still lots of places available in the ceiling, you are most likely to get an invitation in the next round for 189.

Remember, your EOI is ahead of any EOI with less than 75 points no matter if those were submitted millions of light years ago.

Also, you should have a very very bright chance if you submit for 190 with 80 points. But I am almost certain that you will get your invitation within next 2 rounds, where I'd say 95% chances that in next round.

Oh right, I read it wrong in a hurry.

Well, last 5 rounds visa effect date for minimum point invitee in Accountant skill was, 2 Sep, 3 Sep, 5 Sep, 12 Sep, 13 Sep (2016), with 98 invitees each round.

So, I am afraid, you might need to wait a bit. I guess you don't need to be frustrated, because 70 is pretty good point. In the worst case scenario if you can't make it in this fiscal year, usually they invite higher number of people in the first few rounds of a new fiscal year.

Also, I recommend you ofcourse should submit EOI for 190 with 75 points, as several people reported to get invitation in NSW with 75 points. With sates, you never know what happens because they don't reveal any (detail) stats, but you should take your chance.

You have to pass in NAATI exam (similar to what you did to claim points for English proficiency by giving IELTS). NAATI is a exam which tests your translation skill from your native language to English and vice versa. Number of NAATI center is limited worldwide, also test dates are not as frequent as IELTS.

You can check test date and location in the page 6 of https://www.naati.com.au/media/1451/accreditation_by_testing_information_booklet.pdf

Dear MysticRiver,

Based upon my timeline, and considering that I sent an email to the DIBP on the 12th of October, 2016 and an email to [email protected] three months ago, do you recommend sending a new email enquiring about my case to DIBP?

Thank you in advance for assisting me in this regard.

As per recent analysis, a delay is most likely not to happen. You can email or not, there couldn't be any suggestion about it. But actually this makes DIBP make your case more delayed hence they have a lot of work load already so emailing them pisses them off more. Keep patience.

Hi MYSTIC RIVER,

Based on my time line, is anything wrong with my case that it has not been finalised yet? I should mention that in one of the forms ( 80 or 1221) I declared that my documents were returned to me when I applied for skilled worker visa of Canada three years ago without mentioning the reason. Could it be the main cause behind this lag?

To be honest, that couldn't be the reason. We have seen minimum 21 days for a grant and maximum 1.5 years to get a grant. If you are not being contacted. Just be patient. You will get it positively. There's nothing you can do to make it work.

Hi Rakshanda,

Thank you very much indeed for answering my enquiry.

If there was a mistake in filling out the form 80 or 1221, would I be notified about it, and could it be the cause of this delay?
