As far i know there is no rule saying that we have to have english language requirements for 887 visa as we already have given ielts before coming to Australia during 489 visa process?????.... please kindly reply...

New to the forum. I have the same issue as posted above. I was the main applicant which hold 489 visa and now when I applied 887 they requested me IELTS. I called the hotline and they provided me with an email (skill support) to get a clarification regarding the request as it sounds not necessary. Still waiting for their reply.

Hi, can you please help me also about the English requirement, from 489 to 887 visa... what is the update? Thanks

Good afternoon,

I'm close to complete the 2 year requirement to be able to apply to the 887 Visa; I was reading about requirements and is not clear if I need to provide as the main applicant an updated English test, I completed a Master Degree so I think I can provide this certificate the will replace the exam?. But, what about my wife, she needs to provide an English test? We paid for the second installment for her when we applied to the 489, my question is what happen if she doesn't get the score? I would need to pay the VAC2 again?
Many thanks for your help

Proof of functional English

Provide proof that all applicants aged 18 years and older, who have not paid the second instalment of the visa application charge in respect of their eligible visa, have at least functional English.

If you can't provide proof of functional English

Applicants aged 18 years and older, who have not paid the second instalment visa application charge in respect of their eligible visa and can't provide evidence of functional English, will need to pay the second instalment of the visa application charge when we ask for it.

An eligible visa is your current visa based on which you are applying 887.

So, as I understand from the above statement, all applicants need to provide evidence except those who paid VAC2 earlier.

Yes, you are right if you read that information. But it is funny that when apply for 489, they required minimum 6.5 ielts . Now apply for 887 is just functional english =ielts 4.5? kind of downgrade in requirement. FYI, they accept assessment from Adult Migration English Program (AMEP) provider.

You won't need to give another English exam.

After lodge 887 visa can move any where metropolitan city or still waiting for grant ?
It should be fine to move to other areas.

Hi Pal, have you applied for 887 visa? Did you provide again Ielts result?
I will apply at the end of January for 887 visa and I am not sure if I have to provide again Ielts result ( I was the primary applicant for 489 visa and I provided at that time Ielts with 7 in each band)
Regards, Constantin
You need to provide proof of functional English. It's under Step 2 here:

@MysticRiver

Could you please help me with this?

Main Applicant :
  1. Took the IELTS in 2018, achieving a score above 6 bands. Completed her skill assessment with these results, resulting in a positive skill assessment.
  2. Used her skill assessment and IELTS results to fulfill the age, English, and skill criteria for our 489 visa application as the partner.
  3. Holds a Bachelor's Degree from Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom. The language of instruction and assessment is English, with face-to-face lectures.
Secondary Applicant :
  1. Completed the IELTS in 2018, obtaining a score above 6 bands. His skill assessment was also positive.
  2. Utilized his skill assessment and IELTS results as the main applicant for our 489 visa application.
  3. Holds a Bachelor's Degree from Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom. The language of instruction and assessment is English, with face-to-face lectures.
  4. Has a Master's Degree from Salford University, United Kingdom. The language of instruction and assessment is English, with face-to-face lectures.

489 Secondary applicant will be the main applicant for 887 visa.

Will they request functional English again for any applicants according to the above scenario?
