Hello MysticRiver

How do we know the latest cutoff(189 visa) for the "Engineering Technologist" category? some sites quote it to be same as the latest cutoff for the "Engineering Professionals" category which being a Pro-rata occupation, the cutoff for which is clearly stated on the Immigration website.
Please advise.

Thanks Sky

I am aware of the latest invitation rounds being available on this website. My question is specifically regarding the "Engineering Technologist" category which is a non-pro rata occupation. How do we know the latest cutoffs for this category.
On the Immigration site you referred earlier, only the cutoffs for the pro rate occupations are listed.
Please advise if i am missing something.

The non-pro rata gets the cumulative cut offs. As far as I know, there are no individual cut offs for each occupation in this category. See if you can find anything over here: https://www.migrationdesk.com/statistics-cutoffs-au/

Let me get to the reason i need to understand this. Just recently a week back, I have applied for EA skills assessment under the category of "Plant Engineer". There is a possibility that they may offer me "Engineering Technologist" as i have heard many a times happens.
That apart I need to understand which of these can work best for me in terms of getting in earlier. The reason being, next year in September, I will lose 10 points due to my age.
Also for both of these categories, going by the statistics you pointed earlier, the Cutoff was 90 but the DOE is 18-Nov for Plant Engineer and 29-Jan-2020 for Engineering Technologist. So does it mean for 90 points, I will be able to get in earlier as a Engineering Technologist versus a Plant Engineer?
Kindly advise as this is very important for me?

1) EA will give you the outcome based on their guidelines. If you have read the MSA booklet and your duties and other proofs are in line with the ANZSCO selected by you, then you will get the desired outcome. Else, EA will suggest you the ANZSCO if they are not satisfied.
2) Since 2018, there have been changes in the GSM program of Australia with more focus being diverted towards the regional areas. 189 has been made difficult to get through unless you have high points. Although the point requirements for both pro rata as well as non pro rata has gone up.
3) I cannot predict what will unfold in the near future and what changes will come into effect in the new financial year.
4) I recommend, you to lodge your EOI as soon as you fulfill all the requirements for visa and apply for all applicable visa sub classes. 491 is also a pathway to PR provided you satisfy the conditions. 190 is already a PR provided you get invited and satisfy the conditions of this visa sub class.
