Move to metro while having 489 visa after applying 887

The BV you received will have the exactly the same criteria/limitation as of your existing (489) visa. So, moving under 489 and BV would have the same impact. Hence, the question really should be whether you should move before your 887 grant or not.

You didn't mention which state are you in, as different states demand differently. For example,

SA said:
Commitment to South Australia – You need to commit to living and working in South Australia for two years from when you arrive, with a view to long-term settlement

VIC said:
Live and work in regional Victoria

A primary obligation of the Victorian visa nomination application process is that you and any of your dependants must live and work in regional Victoria while you are living in Australia under this visa.

So, theoretically, if you are in VIC, you should remain in the regional area until you get 887 grant. If you are in SA, you can move (assuming you have passed 2 years as you have already applied for 887).

Practically, well, not clear how strictly states enforce this especially after someone applies in 887.

Hi I am wondering if anyone can answer my questions. I fulfilled my 2 year commitment for the 489 visa in the NT and applied for a 887 straight away. I moved states to Qld but am living in a postcode not classed as rural. I thought once I completed the 2 years I was free to go anywhere. I now know this is not the case. I have been at this address for 2 months and have not worked as it is an extended holiday. I am going to break lease asap and move to a rural postcode. Does anyone know if this will affect my chances of getting a 887 or might they overlook the fact that I have not worked in this area. TIA.

Hi, i am going to apply for 887 in January and i am planing to move to western australia,
Can i reside in nearby Perth CBD, or still i have to take care of the post codes , My 489 visa was granted on 13 January 2020, my 489 visa will expire in January 2024.
Please assist me on this.
Thank u
I’m like you but in tasmania will apply for 887 in 5 months. From what I heard from other people that bridging visa doesn’t give you any rights and you still need to abide by the 489 restrictions . Not sure if any recent updates and changes are made, I wish though… taking in account that 887 could take time to process .

I have applied for 887 last month (NSW) regional state. I was wondering the same that if I could move to perth (armadale) as I have been offered a FT job. Some say yes I can move as I have already fulfilled the 2 year stay and 1 yr work requirement, while others say no I can’t as my 489 visa is still active.

I too would like to know.
I am planning to move up to a regional postcode on the outskirts of Gold Coast, but it will be hard to also get work within this small postcode...aargh what a situation to be in, especially as the waiting time for 887 is 15 to 22 months!!
