I am a software engineer and I got my 489 visa on Feb 2020 and unfortunately, they closed the borders at the same time.
After months of waiting, I got a student visa for the UK. Now, I am in the UK on student visa.
489 visa duration is 4 years and I should live there for 2 years. currently, 1 year and 11 months elapsed. so I have to go there in a month.
1. Is there any news about decreasing the 2 years living condition or extending the visa time ?
2. what's your opinion for 489 visa, that can be extended to 887 and then PR, VS, the UK student visa that required 5 years of continuous work to get an ILR (PR) and then citizenship?

I appreciate your opinion and your suggestion.

You can see COVID concession on 887 in the following page, other than that I didn't hear any additional concession or change in visa validity or 2 years' living condition

That entirely depends on your preference. 489->887 is shorter path, but you'd need to resettle and get a job in Australia to support yourself during this period.

Thanks for your reply.
Currently I am a student in Newcastle, So in both locations I have to search for a job.
and Also, I have to pay the tuition fee and study until September (online or in-person).
the question is: in long term, which one do you prefer for living ?

I think that entirely personal preference. I never lived in UK, so can't really compare. But based on what Hollywood tells us about UK, I don't like a place where it rains most of the time. On the other hand, I really love to travel in Europe in vacation, and that would be next door to UK 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️.

  • Always post in a relevant thread or open a new one.
  • Better to use the reactions in a post to congratulate/thank.
