Hi MysticRiver and Community, logging back here after 5 years. I am in a very unusual situation with my travel movement record for citizenship. Unlike normal migrants, My travel movement shows Arrival as CRA(Crew Arrival) and Departure from Australia as CDR(Crew Departure). During the times of entry i was working on ship and my ship was in Australian waters. Now i am unable to find any information online or from immigration department regarding the days in question as to I am able to count those days as living in Australia or not. At a particular time I got off from ship and stayed in Australia. There I had entry as SOF(Signoff from Ship). It is so confusing and basically ZERO Information is available for my case scenario . I was wondering if anyone from community has had same situation or not.

Refer to Become an Australian citizen (by conferral) Permanent residents or New Zealand citizens (homeaffairs.gov.au), specifically expand "Residence requirement", "General exemptions", "Special residence requirement", "Work that requires overseas travel".

I believe the example "on duty by a crew member of a ship or aircraft" would cover your situation. It does appear that you do need to have been in Australia for 16 months over the last four years, including the last four months before you apply.

As you go through the application, it will tell you that you don't qualify under residence but will ask if you are applying for Ministerial Discretion or Special Residence requirements. You'll want to say YES to Special Residence requirements, and will need to provide evidence from your employer.

Thank you so much reply. I am trying to understand if, Crew Arrival and Crew Departure from travel record would be considered towards living in Australia or not. I have 23 months work on me as ship crew. if the Time of arrival as crew is considered living in australia, i would very well be in positive more than 24 months work and can easily aim for 16months living in Australia by this december.

While I cannot directly say with 100% certainty that it will be, my "definitely not a migration agent, this is not migration advice" reading of that would be that if you remain in Australia for at least four months, which you already have based on the Signoff, then as long as the missing Crew Departure date (your history confusingly starts with a Crew Arrival) was only two months before your first Crew Arrival in 2021 (not that it needs to be two months, just assuming based on all your other CRD/CRA timelines) then you're already eligible to apply and almost certainly meet the Special Residence criteria.

I would say gather your documentation and apply. The application won't even let you through if you don't meet residence criteria, and it will check against your movement record. Supply all the required documentation at the Special Residence page.
