Not claiming points for work experience - 189

Hi,

Thanks for this very helpful forum.

I've been going through the EOI requirements, and I wanted to confirm a matter regarding work experience. Even though I have considerable work experience, yet I would not like to claim any points for it. I already have 65 points without it, and I want to escape the hassle of getting letters from my previous employers and then dealing with verification calls.

So I just wanted to make sure whether there is a possiblity of submitting EOI and then the 189 visa application without claiming any work experiences? Is is OK not to upload any work related documents after submitting the application and only to submit requisite paperwork for the 65 claimed points?

Many thanks.

As per my knowledge, you only need those things for experiences that you have claimed points for. If you didn't claim any point for experience, those documents should be unnecessary (you have to, however, mention all your experiences in Form 80 and applications, those are for recording purposes).

Thanks very much again for the additional clarification.

Yes, I intend to duly add all my experiences on EOI and Form 80 for record purposes.

Hello Stonewash,

I find myself in a similar experience now. I have a skills assessment letter from ACS that has certified all my experience as relevant. But I do not want to claim one of those experiences as relevant due to lack of sufficient documentation. Can you please let know how did this pan out?

Thanks.

Yes, it turned out well. I eventually got teh 189 without claiming any points for work experience. As long as you're sure that your profession doesn't have a requirement for it (at the point of assessment), then it's certainly an option to go ahead without claiming points for employment.
Also, if your profession is competitive (mine was not), then perhaps getting a high score (through your work experiences) might be a good idea so you get the invite earlier.
Good luck!

Dear MysticRiver, i will like to know whether is it okay to leave the employment experience part in my EOI empty since i'm not claiming points for it. Although i have working experience, i'm worried that adding it to the EOI now will affect my DOE and i don't want to provide proof of employment.
And will it be an issue if my EOI does not list any working experience but later on, i list them out in Form 80?

Should be okay. If I remember correctly, someone here excluded some experience in EOI by mistake and got an invitation. Then he emailed SkillSelect about the case and they confirmed him it was okay as long as he didn't overclaim anything.

Hi I'm also applying for visa 189 but have mentioned my work experience as non relevant. Do I have to present documents for the work experience at the time of logging visa? Please help.

Good day All.

I'm afraid I may have made a horrible mistake and concerned about possible visa (189) rejection.

So I indicated all my relevant work experience related to my occupation - I have claimed points for my work experience on both my EOI and VISA Application. I submitted my VISA application last week. However, I forgot to indicate my Vacation Work experience (of 3 months) needed during my studies. This was a prerequisite to obtain my qualification. I cannot claim any points for this period as it was during my studies and I was not deemed skilled at the point in time. It was an honest mistake, how do I correct this? Will I face possible visa rejection?

Does your point change without those 3 months' experience?

As he explained, it was a prerequisite for completing his studies, I am sure it doesnt really matter. And the time wont be calculated for skilled work.

Hmm .. but let say he claimed points for 5 years experience such that 4.7 years skilled employment + 3 months of those experience.

Then he's just simply loosing his points.

Then he's just simply loosing his points.
And as he has already lodged his visa application with an invitation based on that extra point, his application becomes invalid.
