I wish to ask if i can work in any occupation other then my nominated occupation.
Definitely

DHA on 887 visa eligibility said:
When you apply for this visa you must have worked full-time for at least 12 months as the holder of one or more eligible skilled visas:
Full time work means 35 hours per week. You can combine work in concurrent part-time employment to satisfy this requirement. You can work in your nominated occupation or any other occupation.

@MysticRiver you mentioned that a bridging visa will be granted if 489 expires, will they grant applicant a bridging visa immediately upon application for 887 submitted or only when 887 is submitted AND 489 expires? It says on their website "you must be inside Australia if our decision is to grant you a visa", so does that mean the applicant cannot leave Australia until grant? Thanks!
BV is granted as soon as you apply 887, but come into effect after your 489 expires. Until your 489 is expired, you can travel as you like, but you need to come back because your 887 will be granted only while you are in Australia.

Thank you for clarifying @MysticRiver. So, does that mean once I have submitted an application for 887, I should remain in the country until a decision is made as I need to be in Australia when they grant and the grant can happen at anytime? Thanks!

You can travel overseas if you want. They will wait for you to come back before they issue the grant.

You need to apply for BV-b to travel outside Australia, initially you will be granted with BV-a which does not allow you to travel outside Australia.
Better not to travel until you get the grant unless you have some emergency.

Thanks! When I submit 887 application, do I need to submit police clearance from home even if I didn’t go back since coming to Australia?

you should submit latest PCC from your home country, Department already know that you are in Australia but still they ask for a latest PCC from you home country. Getting a PCC from your home country is easy mate.

Hi MysticRiver,
Just with reference to the earlier reply about traveling while the 887 application is in the process could you kindly guide me if all applicants (main and dependants) should be in Australia for 887 visa grants?
My idea is to send my wife with kids back home for summer holidays like 2-3 months before the due date of 887 visa grant.
That means when the estimated due date (now they declare 18 months to review 887 application from 489 visa) comes I, as the main applicant, will be in Australia, but not my wife and kids.
Would I be given a PR straight under such circumstances and wife and kids will be granted later on when they arrive back? (Should we notify them about return?)
Or I ought to wait until after my wife and kids return to Australia to be granted 887 as an entire family?
By the time of the expected grant, our 489 visas will be still applicable for some time so wife and kids will be able to return back on eligible visas yet.
