Department of Home Affairs has made some arrangements for prioritizing the pending visa applications of all the subclasses (skilled-migration related only). It is designed to complement other recent changes to skilled migration to ensure that the economy gets the skill it needs now. They help to better address the needs of the industry by targetting skills in demand across a number of sectors and help ensure that the skilled migration program is responsive to the current economic climate and the needs of the Australian Economy.
The following point-tested skilled migration visas are subject to processing priority arrangements:
- Subclass 189 (skilled-independent, Points-tested stream)
- Subclass 190 (Skilled - Nominated)
- Subclass 489 (Skilled-Regional/Provincial)
- Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional/Provincial)
For the above-listed visas, the current processing priorities (with the highest priority listed first) are:
1. Any point test system with Critical Sector occupations
2. 491 - Non-Critical (applicants within Australia)
3. 491 - Non-Critical (applicants outside Australia)
4. 489 - Non-Critical (all applicants)
5. 190 - Non Critical (all applicants)
6. 189 - Non Critical (all applicants)
Note: The above information is not shared anywhere on the home affairs website at the moment, but it can be obtained by sending an email to home affairs (skilled support) enquiring about the visa processing priorities and timelines.
