If I understand border correctly:
155 are for those who managed to meet the 2 out of 5 years stay in Aussie
157 are for those who didn't

I read in some other forums, there are people who managed to get approval for an annual RRV because they stayed less than 2 years in Aussie due to personal reasons, anyone here have similar experiences?

From the gov website, it states that you need to give strong reasons of cultural, business, employment, investment ties, etc in order to get a RRV if you do not meet the 2 out of 5 years condition.

I also heard the same. The best way is to manage a job, if you have a job, you most probably will have no issue getting an RRV.

I have this thought of asking the authorities directly but I don't want to raise any alarms...

No issues if I am there, plus I will be making annual trips there for holiday these few years...
but I am not very certain if I will be able to move permanently before my 189 expires...

Well, at the extreme scenario, you can move at the end of your 5 yr term (let say after 4.9 yrs), then look for a job, until then don't leave the country, and once you have the job, apply for RRV.

keeping this as a last resort cos I won't be able to leave Aussie for the next 2 years until I can apply an RRV for the next 5 years :p
