I've never been that much into politics like now, trying to figure out who is who and ticking on what...

We all know that immigration (and skilled especially) changed for worse since Peter Dutton was a minister of home affairs (with Turnbull as a prime minister). For those who were not reading the news, long story short - the new prime minister is Scott Morrison who used to be a Minister of Finance and highly supportive towards immigration. Peter Dutton still remains in home affairs however, he won't be in an immigration department any more (which is now a separate department)!!!

What are your thoughts on this? How fast do you think things will change and get back to how it was or similar?

First of all let me say, 'Finally!, someone other than me is paying attention to the most important details of immigration.'

trying to figure out who is who and ticking on what...
This is too soon to tell but as people take on their responsibilities and their relevant roles at offices we would get to know.

This is either one of two reasons. They were against immigration simply because their hatred towards immigrants or they actually foresaw the coming infrastructure disaster and acted accordingly. I don't know much about either of them to say for sure which side they are on.

Regardless of him being the finance minister, anyone in that position would have favoured immigration because Australia witnessed a huge economic growth over the past few years, and mostly due to the direct and indirect contribution of the skilled immigration program.

I'm not an expert so I can't really tell.

If things would favour us immigrants in the future I assume Australia will be very keen on population distribution and spread immigrants to regional areas accordingly. Even the current rate of intake is too much for the current infrastructure to handle and be expanded. I've seen this issue come up on news, forums, discussions and Reddit. If things would become unfavourable, well then, they'll just keep reducing numbers until it's gone for good. Though I highly doubt this would happen anytime soon. (The increased crime rate by immigrants, however, could play a big role here and could change directions completely.) Because Australia does actually need more people. It's a big country with so many resources and so little population. Just to put that into perspective, I live in Sri Lanka which has 22mil population, Australia is 118 times bigger than my country and just hit a record 25mil about a month ago.

We can only hope that this means the dawning of a new era; more favourable invitation rounds for everyone.

For immigration purpose, ScoMo will be more lenient than Peter Dutton, no doubt on that. However, ScoMo has also been strict about illegal immigrants (by boats), which is a good thing in my opinion.

Regarding the skilled migration, irrespective of whoever will be the PM, unless it's a Labor MP, I think things will not get easier with time. Because there has been genuine concern locally about the job demand/supply balance.

Exactly, everyone's cramming into Melbourne and Sydney. They must address this issue before anything else.

I'm starting not like this guy Dutton so much. Clearly, he's racist of some sort.

Hero Afghan interpreter who helped our troops is denied a visa despite facing death back home - while Peter Dutton's wealthy mate's French au pair was granted one
