Invitation statistics for high demand occupations

Due to large numbers of EOIs being received for the below occupations, DIBP decided to invite on a pro rata basis for these occupations over the 2017-18 program year. However, this process can be changed if the situation demands. SkillSelect first allocates available places to Skilled – Independent (subclass 189) visas and then remaining to Skilled – Regional (subclass 489) (Provisional – Family Sponsored) visas. If all places are taken up by subclass 189 visas then there will be no invitations issued for subclass 489 visas in these occupations.

This indeed a very unusual round, because:
  1. On the 6th September round, the cutoff date was 3rd August 2017 whereas this round it was 13th Sep with cutoff point remains same at 65. This means, between in this 40 days (3rd August-13th Sep), total 784 EOIs were submitted in non-prorated occupations with 65+ points. I believe this is quite high.
  2. There was no invitation at 85 points on the 6th September round, whereas this time there were 235 invitations! This means, since 3rd August, 235 EOIs have been submitted with 85 points!
  3. The statistics show Accountants' cutoff point increased in this round by 10 points! This is quite unprecedented. This means at least 239 (most likely more than, as cutoff date was 15th Sep on 20th Sep round) EOIs were submitted in Accountant category with 85 points!
I am thinking, just a thought though, is it possible that lots of fake EOIs were submitted? As EOI submission is unmoderated, it is possible that some frustrated soul submitted lots of fake EOIs so that others are penalized. If that is the case, these invitations will be expired in 60 days, so no harm in the long run, but of course just ruined this round.

Again, the above thought has absolutely no base at all, I am just thinking out of blue of sheer surprise due to this unprecedented round.

Hiii mystic , I think that department should verify Genuity of EOI, because others are suffering unnecessary delay due to that. My occupation occupation is electrical engineer. I don't know from where 52 people with 65 came. On immitracker last person invited is with 9-09-2017. My eoi date is 23-6-3017 with 60 point. I am afraid whether they will give invitation to people with 60 points?

First of all, let me emphasize again that, there is absolutely no solid reason to believe that actually happened.

Next to your proposal, I think it's tough to verify each EOI, as it'd require more resources and thus will increase the cost of the program (you know, the resource is one of the costliest things in Australia).

But I do agree that there should be some preventive measure to avoid fake EOIs. Some of the options could be
  • Introducing a fee for submitting an EOI. This will be very much unpopular I believe. Also, it will be unfair for people who submit a genuine EOI and never gets an invitation. So, the policy can be made such that
    • The EOI fee will be refunded if an EOI expired without an invitation as EOI lifetime is 3 years (or 2, I forgot).
    • It'll also be refunded if an EOI is withdrawn, as nobody is penalized or need any extra resource for that
    • It should also be refunded if an invitation is accepted by that person in any subclass, because people tend to submit different EOIs in different subclasses.
  • Another option is to penalize the expired invitee by a specific time, maybe 1 year or so
  • The final option I can think of is, reducing the acceptation deadline from 60 days to 10 days so that all the places due to fake EOIs are released before the next round. I think, if someone plans to migrate, he should plan ahead and there is no reason for him to wait 60 days AFTER the invitation to decide whether to accept it or not.

Fellas, whoever is on facebook please leave messages on DIBP page and also major migration firms like <truncated> so we can push department to implement some measures for next rounds.

I am highly doubtful that someone could enter 200+ eoi's manually. but given the condition of skillselect system which doesn't have even basic checks to prevent this sort of thing someone may have developed an automation script, tool, etc and if that's the case we are in for more surprises.

Under section 137.1 of the Criminal Code Act 1995, providing false or misleading information to a Commonwealth entity is punishable by law. i hope they get to the bottom of this and find whoever gamed the system.

I am not saying it happened, but if it did, it doesn't necessarily mean that EOIs were submitted manually. Using Python/Perl or any script, it is easy to automate the process.

The statistics show Accountants' cutoff point increased in this round by 10 points! This is quite unprecedented. This means at least 239 (most likely more than, as cutoff date was 15th Sep on 20th Sep round) EOIs were submitted in Accountant category with 85 points!
Just to emphasize how unusual it is, before the last round, total 85+ EOIs submitted in last 1.5 years (since July 2016, total 31 rounds) for all the occupations were 140, whereas from 6th August to 15th Sep (40 days), 239 85+ EOIs were submitted only for Accountant category!

By the way, we also should not discard the simple possibility that a technical error occurred in the SkillSelect system in this round.

Nothing. But again, human psychology is very strange, otherwise, what do hackers gain by hacking or pirating (I know some warez sites run advertisements, but many just do it for plain fun or revenge or frustration)?

Again, I am not saying that (fake EOI) happened .....

Did this peculiar round in anyway also affected other ANZSCO codes by sucking up the invites? Or we can't tell without data?

Hahahaha, unprecedented is the word indeed. Been calculating the days too, from 13 September until 4 October= 20 days, can 65s derail the 60s party again?
This round defies all logic. Phew!

Given the outcome of this round , no doubt it becomes difficult or even naïve to come up with some form of prediction or hypothesis for the next round.

Any idea why there was only a little movement for 2631 category this time?

I was expecting at least to reach 1st week of March but its only moved from 13/02/2017 to 21/02/2017 - just 8 days

Unfortunately, I'm waiting for an invite with 65 points with EOI submitted on 5/09/2017 :).

Will I get the invite before it reaches the ceiling?

Theoretically, prorated occupations should not affect non-prorated ones.

I'm planning of lodging my application with all documents including medicals. I have generated the the HAP id. When they say don't lodge application until medicals are done do they mean I have to lodge (make payment) when the clinic has uploaded my medicals on IMMIaccount?

Mystic i highly perceive it to be a reporting error only. a jump from 75 to 85 is not possible at all in just 1 round gap.

Yes, that's a possibility. However, several of people complained immediately after the invitation round (before the result was published) that no Accountant invitation was visible.

Consider before posting:
  • Do not post the same thing in multiple places.
  • No personal contact and/or non-English phrase is allowed.
  • Always post in a relevant thread or open a new one.
  • Better to use the reactions in a post to congratulate/thank.
