Sub class 489 - State Sponsored Regional Visa, is similar to Sub Class 489 - Family Sponsored Visa with the difference that you will need the state sponsorship (as in subclass 190). You can claim 10 extra points compare to subclass 190 at the expanse of:
  • You will be granted provisional visa, or Temporary Residence
  • You have to live/work/study in regional Australia unless you convert it to Permanent Residency. This visa provides a pathway to permanent residence through the Skilled-Regional (Residence) visa (subclass 887).

Hi @MysticRiver I have a few questions regarding 489 visa for ICT Business Analyst and I was wondering whether you know the answers or could point me to the right resources.
- Can anyone apply or is it a requirement to have a previous visa e.g. hold a subclass 475, 487.. as mentioned on the DIBP website?
- Regional areas are usually rural areas or can it be anywhere near Sydney (in the case of NSW)
- Is it possible to choose state where we want the regional area to be located?
- How much time would we have to live there in order to be able to get a permanent visa and work anywhere within Australia? (e.g. I believe 190 requires to work in the assigned state for 2 years)
- Is there any other key difference with 190 visa besides the location? (489 being regional versus 190 being entire state)?

Thank you

You need to hold at least one of the subclass visa as mentioned on DIBP website. Or invited by a family member OR sponsor.

Yes

The stay of visa is 4 years, you can apply for a PR afterwards.

- Is there any other key difference with 190 visa besides the location? (489 being regional versus 190 being entire state)?
190 is a PR visa, 489 isn't.

I have received an invitation for 489 from SA and I just lodged the application for visa and paid the fees. In the next 10 days I will submit PCC and health certificate. I have all the relevant documents uploaded. Hopefully they don't request for more. I have the below questions:
1) Are there any specific documents that the COs ask for which is largely missed by applicatiants so I can be prepared with those
2) Assuming I have all documents in place what is the timeframe I should look at for the grant
3) is there a way to understand the progress of my process so I can estimate my grant period? I have a 3 month long notice period in my current organisation and I would like to resign earlier so I can get the visa n migrate quickly

1) Basically, make sure you don't miss anything listed on the document checklist in your immiaccount.
2) Nobody can say. It's likely to be faster compared to the situation of no prior upload, but the actual timeline depends on so many other things including verification and background check.
3) No, unfortunately.

What do you mean by "process" of nature justice letter? Did you mean how to reply a nature justice letter? If so, it really depends on what ground you got that letter from your CO, and what he asked.

There is no such thing as "x months passed". They take as long as they want.

Thanks! Sorry onshore / offshore? I have adequate funds to stay for 5-6 months without a job.. however not as much as mentioned in the requirement criteria. Hopefully that doesn't play up
