Hi there, it has been awhile since I've posted on this forum :)

I couldn't find much info on this so maybe I can get some luck here.

We already have a subclass 189. If unfortunately my family and I are not able to meet the RRV requirements and many years down the road, my kid(s) want to study in Australia. As a PR, can they apply for a student visas? And for us parents, can we still enter Australia via a tourist visa?

If you stay in Australia for 36 months in any 48 months period, you'll get the citizenship, so neither you or your children need to worry about RRV/student visa.

With your current visa, you can't enter Australia after 5 years (but if you stay in Aus, you can remain there forever without an issue).

So, if your hypothetical question was, "after 5 years, if I stay outside Australia without citizenship and RRV, and then want to re-enter Aus as a tourists/student, if that'll be an issue or not", the answer is, you never know. It can be, but it doesn't have to be. I know a person who's student visa was rejected because he applied for PR before. But in his case, his PR was rejected and it was within couple of years, so there was fare reason to believe he was trying to enter Aus by any means.

Hopefully that's the case but my home country disallows dual citizenship so i need to be careful before taking the plunge

Thanks for rephrasing, its much easier to understand :p

Its going to be trouble if i cannot meet the RRV requirements... Anyway, I am asking in case the worst happens

Thanks a bunch, mate!
