  • This question is regarding with application for my brother.

Before my question, let me explain some background about his application first.

My brother has SUCCESSFUL TRA skill assessment in Electronic Equipment Trades Worker (342313).
We applied using his Singapore Diploma and working experiences in Singapore.
It stated that "For the purposes of this skills assessment, TRA considers that the applicant was first able to commence work in skilled employment in the nominated occupation from 11 June 2009."

His PTE result is only band 6. (unable to claim point).

He is doing degree right now in Kaplan, University of South Australia and going to graduate in May this year.

    Right now, his points are
    age - 30pts
successful skill assessment with diploma - 10pts
work experience - 10pts (more than 5 years)
    english - 0 pts

    My question is

    1) Can he use his bachelor degree to claim 15 points when he graduate in May together with his work experience 10 points from TRA assessment? (15 + 10)
    2) Since the bachelor degree didn't go through the TRA skill assessment, is it ok to claim points? I have checked his course is accredited by Engineer Australia.
    3) TRA has MPA (Migration point advice) process that can suggest for point claim. However, when I contact TRA, they said to check with DIBP if my case would be needed MPA. I can't find any email to contact to DIBP.
  • If any of you encounter similar situation, kindly drop a suggestion.

Both his degree and diploma are in Electronic major.

thanks in advance for all the valuable advices.

I am not exactly sure about TRA, but usually most of the assessment authority maintain that you can not claim point for pre-qualification experience. So, if TRA also maintains that, he's going to loose point for experience before his graduation.

Since the bachelor degree didn't go through the TRA skill assessment, is it ok to claim points? I have checked his course is accredited by Engineer Australia.
His education needs to be assessed by a relevant authority to claim points for. If he chooses TRA for assessment, and TRA doesn't assess his education, he needs to contact VETASSESS I guess, not EA. If he contact EA, he has to nominate an occupation from EA's list, not TRA.

TRA has MPA (Migration point advice) process that can suggest for point claim. However, when I contact TRA, they said to check with DIBP if my case would be needed MPA. I can't find any email to contact to DIBP.

Can anyone confirm whether he is going to loose point if he claim degree from TRA using MPA? I feel that doesnt make sense.

I have read the MPA and MSA document of TRA and couldn't find anywhere that mentions the pre-qualification experience will not be counted. So, reason to believe he won't loose anything if he's with TRA.

If I were him, I'd have taken the MPA. The reason is TRA mentions they can assess qualification if the applicant have a qualification comparable to the Australian qualification for his nominated occupation. If his qualification is not relevant to his nominated occupation, TRA won't assess/advise about that. And to get points against qualification, he needs some assessment to prove that his qualification meets Australian standard.

Thanks for spending time to read up the MSA/MPA. I was thinking the same too. So in May, when he receives his transcript and Degree certificate, we should apply MPA for him and if TRA doesn't accept, then we will have to check at vetassess. His diploma used in successful TRA outcome is Diploma in Electronics, Computer and Communication Engineering. The degree that he is going to get in May is Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of South Australia, Kaplan campus in Singapore.

We shall see how TRA will response about it.

Btw, please do update us the whole process once you submit your EOI, so that we can have some idea of what to proceed with TRA assigned skills.

As long as your assessment says your education meets Australian Bachelor standard, you should be able to claim 15 points irrespective of your employment status.

I did not mentioned my B-Tech pass n Hons education because my assessing authority was TRA that requires level 4 equivalency education for my occupation 342313 . I gave them DAE degree, transcript that is post matric three year program plus 10 year full time work experience.

My assessment came positive for 342313. but the issue that i am facing is my assessment outcome report does not declare my educational equivalency (I found some TRA outcome report on internet that is telling applicant about their educational equivalency such as advance diploma etc) and I am unable to claim educational point during EOI. (Because I do have equivalency declaration from Australian body)

If I contact to TRA for point they do not entertain and say we gave point advice if dept.home affair refer the client. If I contact to dept. of education Australia they say that we do not assess overseas education ( they assess if I am in Australia on P.R etc)

Do I have to get assessment again with adding B-tech education (Pass + Hons)

Maybe, you can try VETASSESS's point test advice.

You don't need your occupation to lie under VETASSESS for taking their point test advice. It's common to take VETASSESS's point test advice (not migration skill assessment) when your original assessment authority denies to assess your qualification (when the qualification is not related to your occupation).

Hi I am going to have my Technical interview skill assessment done for 342313. Do you still recall what questions or format the assessment about? Your help and advice would be so helpful. Cheers

My education is related to my occupation. In January 2020. I have applied Migration Skill Assessment application to TRA and waiting for their result.
