I don't really have a question but wanted to share what I read in yesterday's news.

Excerpts from a national daily:

New migrants wanting to settle in Australia may soon face a big condition: Sydney and Melbourne will be off limits. PM Scott Morrison’s government is in the early stages of drafting plans to force thousands of migrants to settle outside the nation’s two largest cities.

Does this mean they will increase 489 invites or force 189 and 190 to stay in regional places

That's a very good question and even the government doesn't have a proper answer, because according to states, 489 is either very limited or for many popular occupation they issue rejections stating that there isn't that much of a demand.

I think more or less this is a political stunt but nonetheless a real issue that must not be thrown around so lightly.

This seems a drastic move, it's like cutting the branch on which they are sitting from years. There are few questions which are arising after such a loose statement.

If they pass this rule for their political benefits then will make a great mistake and will regret for years. I am pointing few reasons from my understanding on the impact of migrants on Australian's economy.

  • There are more than 2lacs international students in Melbourne & Sydney alone and almost 90% want to settle there after study. And if they can't settle there then why they will pay higher fees and expenses in dream of getting settle in their dream city. So this will bring great set back to education industry.
  • Unemployment is already higher in regional area, locals are crying for jobs and on top of that if they send migrants to those areas then unemployment will increase on a greater node. This will increase crime as well.
  • Infrastructure is not so developed in regional areas and putting pressure on that will cause to breakdown soon.
Now why I want to move to Australia after this, I have to ask several times to my soul

  • I will enjoy lavish life without a job, can I ?
  • I will live in a crime free area, am I safe in a area where people are jobless?
  • I will love to work in fields & washing utensils in restaurants for for earning bread & butter, this is what I suppose to do after a degree & years of experience in IT industry ?
Well these are only few points and list can be longer.

On the other hand if govt think on developing regional area then migrants will automatically start shifting to another areas. If they can find a great job there too, law & order is maintained, regional area are well connected with cities, transportation system is easy to reach and fast to save time. They can find recreational hubs at nearby places. They why they live in bigger cities with hectic life and higher expenses.

In nutshell, improvement in infrastructure and job creation in regional area should be on top priority rather then sending people in bush land just to achieve there political goals

Yes, many occupations are listed with higher points options only 80/85 points. And when we see job boards in those area then can't find more than 2-3 posting then what is left moving in a area where my occupation is not in demand.

And in my opinion there is nothing like in demand occupation. Migration is billion dollar industry for them from years & will be in future as well. That is why they keep changing rules day by day.

I read on a local (Aussie) newspaper that the people who do not have a "work or family" tie will have to go to the regional areas for 5 years. That's funny because I believe the government will find it tough to get people who do not have such ties!

Family tie means married? Or do we need to have kids!

Almost certain this is some political stunt. Is there an election happening soon?

I think next election are in May 2019, migration will be high points for opposition to come back in power and later they will be on same road. As in India in 2014 inflation was the key for BJP and later they are increasing prices & duties of all the things by leaps & bounds.

Stunt or not, I don't see that happening, especially for the ones who already have received their grant in 189. If it happens (again, I don't see any chance for the granted visas), it can be a base for lawsuits because one can argue that he was promised an independent visa and now is forced to leave.

In my opinion, if the government wants to spread out the population, they should rather focus on enforcing 190/489 regulations and increasing regional visas.

Or just encourage businesses to establish themselves in regional areas.
