General What is VEVO? Why is that important? How do I access that?

What is VEVO?
VEVO is the official online portal of DIBP for the Australian visa holders to check their current visa status.

Who has access to VEVO?
Everybody who has an Australian visa granted has the access to VEVO irrespective of which subclass/type his/her visa belongs to.

Why is VEVO important?
As we know, Australia has a paperless visa system, e.g. you won't have any stamp in your passport. So, VEVO offers you the proof of your Australian visa, if you need to submit that proof to anywhere.

Do I need to submit the proof of my Australian Visa to the Australian airport immigration officer?
No, you do not need to submit the proof at Australian immigration at any Australian airport, because they are the VEVO guys :). They know whether you have a valid visa or not (based on your passport).

Then, where do I submit the proof of my Australian Visa?
Any 3rd party agency, e.g. when you try to board a plane to Sydney at London Heathrow airport, or, when you apply for Schengen visa in Australia. Basically, you might be asked to show the evidence at different situations wherever your residency status is important for the outcome of an action.

What is the problem with my grant letter as a proof?
There are 2 issues:
  1. Your grant letter is a proof that you had your visa granted, but it does not prove that your visa is still valid (not canceled) as of today
  2. If you have your passport changed, you need to request DIBP for a new grant letter, whereas updating your record in VEVO is pretty easy.
Should I just carry the print out of my VEVO page with me as a proof?
Many institutions do not accept or discourage the hard copy for the obvious reason that it is very easy to forge that document. Instead, through your VEVO system, you can request DIBP to send the proof to the requester's email address. The system will instantly send an official confirmation from DIBP server to the requester.

So, there is no point of carrying the hard copy, right?
Well, unfortunately, not everyone around the globe is aware of this VEVO system, hence I would recommend to carry the hard copy as well as a backup.

How can I access VEVO?
All the visa holders will be able to check their visa status in the VEVO system through the following link
https://online.immi.gov.au/evo/firstParty?actionType=query

Even better, they can download mobile apps, which is far easier to handle in a hurry
Apple Store: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id988252820
Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.gov.border.myvevo

What information do I need to access VEVO?
For a mobile app, initially, you need to setup a pin by providing your date of birth, passport details, and visa Grant Number or Transaction Reference Number (TRN). For any subsequent login, you just use your pin.

For web-based access, you need to provide DOB, Country, Passport number, and visa Grant Number/Transaction Reference Number (TRN)/visa evidence number/a preset password every time.

Why don't I have my VISA grant number when I save VEVO as PDF though I can see it in my VEVO account?
It is intentional. VISA grant number is a confidential property of the applicant, hence it is removed from the PDF version (which is meant for printing). It's up to the applicants whether they want to share that with a specific institution or not.

How does VEVO look like?
This is what it looks like for a 189 visa holder.

What is "Location" in my VEVO page?
It indicates whether you are currently in Australia (Onshore) or outside Australia (Offshore).

What is "Enter before date" in my VEVO?
It indicates your initial entry date (IED) given to you with your grant letter.

How can I send the official proof of my visa status to any authority?
Request the email address where the confirmation should be sent, and then click on "Send Email" button. Rest is self-explanatory:

Oh, Canada. I like it so much. It's more pretty than USA)) Kidding. But after satisfied expirence with instant banking there I loved policy of this country caused my hobby. I think, you should be convincing and honest in the intentions that interest you and in the migration process will be easy. If you believe in what it will be like to be, it becomes true, you know.

Hi

Our daughters passport has been changed as it was coming up to 5 years old and there was not 6 months left on it for when we go on our validation trip this July.

I have updated our IMMI account with the new Passport number and it seemed to be fine with a message saying thank you. But the VEVO account in her name still has her OLD Passport number showing on her grant letter. Will we be okay at the airport? We'll bring both passports I think, just encase there is a query, but really would prefer to see her updated passport number on VEVO.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks
Sarah

If you bring both passports to the airport, it'll be fine even if you didn't notify it.

Hi ,

Probably its a late reply and the matter should have been sorted by now but just in case there is some confusion. Normally, it takes 2 weeks for VEVO to update the record and it creates two records . one with old and a one with new passport. You need to carry both the passports while you are with departure immigration as they might check the older one. But its the new passport record that should match with the grant letter or the VEVO. So its highly recommended to wait for the VEVO record to appear with new passport before commencing any trip.

Though I have seen a case where it took 3 hours when requested to the Australian high commission in Bangkok, yes, it can take time.

For information, if someone has both the passports, it is absolutely fine NOT to notify anyone before he travels. He just needs to carry both the passports with him and his VEVO record will be updated at the immigration.

However, seems like the OP does not have the old passport with him, so of course, he needs to wait for his record to be updated in VEVO before he travels.

Hi, my family has been granted with 189 visa, we had a new born and added him to the application before grant, but in my son’s grant letter it has the for first entry arrive by date and when we checked vevo the location says off shore , but he is onshore.
could you please suggest anything to be done.
Do I need to call immigration?

I just downloaded the my VEVO app and it works perfectly.
But looks like you can only keep 1 visa saved at a time. If you will look into other visa, you need to key in the their specific details (Passport, TRN, DOB).

Or is there a feature that I can save multiple Visa? (i.e. whole family in 1 app)

In my knowledge, VEVO works per person basis.

Great work. Cleared many of my queries.
However I would like to know from experts here that, I have lodged my application for subclass 189 in Jan 2019. Added my new born as well, waiting for CO contact or the outcome and my passport will expire next year end.
My question is if i get the Grant and i make an entry and come back as I have to finish off few pending works in the country i am residing now can i update about my new passport details in VEVO living offshore.
Will I be able to move back to Aus with my new Passport.
Thanks in advance.

Good day, we have PR (VE 175) granted in 2011. The PR has expired and we did not qualify for renewal.
many husband may now have a job offer and we would like to return to Australia. Upon checking VEVO, the TRN is not recognised. We do have a hard copy in the passport.
could you kindly advise the best way to check our visa status? Thank you.

If your visa was expired, against which visa you are checking?
