With 90 points for 190, would it be better to apply as ICT Business Analyst or as ICT Project Manager?

Hi, I currently have 85 points for 190, from February next month, I will get additional 5 points for completing 8 years skilled work experience so that will be 90 points for 190. I lodged EOI in August last year, so the EOI is valid from then as the points will be automatically updated next month. I have currently done my ACS assessment under ICT Business Analyst. I had the option of going either the BA route or Project Manager route as my work experience and nature of work is aligned to both job descriptions. I chose ICT business analyst as it was under the MLTSSL so i could apply for both 189 or 190. I am still awaiting invite from August. But upon checking the stats on immitracker, I see ICT project managers with even 80 points who lodged EOI after me got invited. So, I am confused whether I should redo ACS under Project manager and lodge new EOI under ICT PM for 190. Also, 190 NSW does not have additional requirement for living and working there for Project Managers where as they do have to Business Analysts. The only drawback I see for Project Manager is that they do now qualify for 189 as it is not on MLTSSL but at the rate at how the 189 invites are sent, i doubt that will make a difference any way. Can someone please guide me on which way would be better. Wait with the current points for business analyst for 189 and 190 VIC or try the ICT PM route. I would really appreciate any help regarding this query. Thank you.

With ICT Business Analyst if you have 85 points your eoi will expire before an invite for 189 as per current trends (huge backlog of 90... growing every month plus a backlog of 85 going as far back as Jan 2019).

I would suggest to seek alternative routes to get an invite wether it be chaging your cocupation to project manager for 190 NSW or 491 if you are eligible. But keep in mind state 190 invites are highly unpredictable and states might say there is no additional requirements for the occupation but due to the highly competitive nature they might prefer and only send invites to applicants who are living and working in NSW than those who are not. But it dosen't harm to try your luck.

You can keep your EOI for ICT BA intact and update it accordingly in February with a new EOI so that you have extra time to wait. In parallel, you may opt for Project Manager role and try your luck for 190 and 189 having separate EOIs for each

Thank you so much for your response. It makes sense. I think I should try out other options as well. Do you have any idea if they will reduce more years for PM than BA. So I had 9 years of work experience when I submitted ACS and they reduced first 2 years for skilled experience which ended up with me having only 7 years skilled experience. Now if I submit again for assessing as PM, I have a doubt if they will remove more than 2 years for skilled experience? Or is it standard 2 years for ICT major?

I saw somewhere that DHA will not reduce work experience points going forward? https://www.iscah.com/important-change-work-experience-points/
Not sure how true that is, any idea?

Also, I hear that ICT Project Manager is going to be moved from the Short term skills to Medium to Long term skills which will be ideal as that would quality for 189 as well, but that also is not confirmed.

Gosh, never thought this process can be confusing and stressful as well. Anyways, hoping for the best... Thank you so much for your guidance and help, appreciate it.

Sorry one last doubt, my husband has same qualification, same work experience, if he gets Superior in PTE then he will have same points as me. He is a developer programmer. Do you think he will have more chance of being invited with 85 points for 189 and 90 points for 190 than me (ICT BA/ICT PM)? If that is the case, i guess it will be worth attempting PTE once again as he currently has Proficient and not Superior.

I am not sure about the current trend for the developer programmer. Just check the latest invitations if DP has a high hand over ICT BA then you can decide

Did you apply for reassessment as project manager? I am in a similar situation, having applied as BA - I didn't quite make the cut with a significant amount of experience deducted as my course was deemed as non-ICT. I am thinking of getting it reassessed for project manager role as it will help with the victorian state criteria(only 3 years required for PM compared to 5 for BA).

Would appreciate if you can share your experience - if you did reapply, how much did you change your application for the re-assessment.
