Hello!

(1) My Bachelor degree was awarded as Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree (AQF Level). My occupation is Telecommunications Technical Officer or Technologist, which also requires Skill Level 2 or Advanced Diploma degree to make the work experience relevant.

(2) I started my job from January, 2016 and I am still continuing with the same job. In the meantime, while doing my full time job, I completed my Master of Engineering in Information Systems Security (Jan 2017- Dec 2018). My question is:

- Can I update my Highest Relevant Qualification (probably will be awarded as Bachelor because I have done my 2 years, 36 credits Master degree) without my work experience years being reduced? Because my occupation requires Skill Level 2 or Advanced Diploma degree and I completed that in 2015.

Thanks.

I am not sure if that will work, one possibility is to re-assess your occupation against the updated degree, you might end up with bachelor but lets take opinion from @MysticRiver

In your case, I am of the opinion that you should get a reassessment because

1) As you need your Masters to claim 15 points, most probably you won't be able to claim any experience points prior to your Masters degree.
2) You don't know the Australian standard equivalent of your Masters degree. It's always a good idea, if not necessary, to get qualifications assessed.

Thanks. But see what the EA official booklet reads:

“Section 4.5 : Work experience can be claimed after the completion of the applicable qualification”

As mentioned above, my occupation requires Skill Level 2 or Advanced Diploma degree and I completed that in 2015.

This is why, I am getting confused. @MysticRiver

Yes, if you are content with Advanced Diploma status, you can claim points from 2015. But if you want to upgrade that to a higher status using your Masters, you may need to consider the date when you achieved that status, e.g., your Masters.

It is possible if the experience points can be claimed using the assessment and in parallel, we can have a point test advice for only masters and can claim points based on that?

It's not very well documented how it would work. So, I can't be certain but I have the opinion that one is eligible to claim experience points after meeting the qualification standard (based on how many points he/she claimed for his/her qualification).

hmm... One more aspect I am thinking is that the PTA is only applicable for those whose educational assessment is not possible by their assessment bodies so I believe it is not possible to claim masters points in parallel

Hello! Today I got the reply from Engineers Australia, which is:

"Dear Mrs Fatima,
Thank you for emailing EA with your concerns.
With respect to your below query, please note the following:
1. Your master degree is comparable to an Australian Bachelor Degree which would be recorded as the highest qualification if you choose to apply.
2. If you seek relevant skills employment, the period after the completion of your AQF comparable Associate Degree would be recorded against your previous outcome i.e. Telecommunications Technical Officer or Technologist
Please note you will have to lodge a new application if you wish to append the outcome letter.
Regards,
Skills Assessor"

@MysticRiver , does lodging a new application mean repeating the same procedures which I did during my first assessment?

I think if you need to assess your Masters degree, you need to submit a new application.
If you only need to assess your experience, you can just submit for RSEA.

Can I use my old Career Episodes while launching a new application?
Yes

Will they accept Provisional certificate as my convocation ceremony will not be held till January, 2020?
Yes

@MysticRiver Thanks for your great help.

I will launch a new application within this week. As they say, my degree will be updated from Advanced Diploma to Bachelor without my work experience being reduced, meaning that I will get 5 points more once they complete my assessment (Fast Track, of course). This appears to be a fantastic news for me.
